Answers to the questions players ask most about Can You Land?, the free plane landing game.
Is Can You Land? free?
Yes. The game is free to play in any modern browser, on phones, tablets and computers. There is nothing to install and no account to create.
How do I control the aircraft?
On a phone, drag a finger anywhere on the screen: down raises the nose, up lowers it, left and right bank the wings. On a computer, use W A S D or the arrow keys. G lowers the gear.
Why do I keep crashing on touchdown?
Usually the sink rate is too high. Stay on the glide path (two white and two red PAPI lights) and raise the nose a little at about 30 to 50 feet so the aircraft settles. Also check that the gear is down and the wings are level.
What do the four lights next to the runway mean?
That is the PAPI. Two white and two red means you are on the glide path. More white means too high, more red means too low.
How do I unlock new maps?
By landing. The Farm Strip opens after 2 landings, Alpine after 3, Maho Beach after 4, the Maldives after 5, Kai Tak after 7, the carrier after 12, Antarctica after 20, Lukla after 30, Edwards after 40 and Mars after 50. The Fjord, the Alpine Switchback and Kitty Hawk open with their own aircraft.
How do I get new aircraft?
Every landing pays coins. Spend them in the hangar. Harder aircraft cost more but pay more per landing. The daily wheel can also give you an aircraft.
Which aircraft is the easiest?
The Cessna 172. It is slow, its gear is always down and it forgives a firm touchdown. Of the airliners, the A320 and the 777 are the most predictable.
Which landing is the hardest?
Most players find the Alpine Switchback in the PC-6, the Shuttle on Mars and THE IMPOSSIBLE in the lent UFO the hardest. The Concorde and the SR-71 are the hardest aircraft to land on a normal runway because their speed window is so narrow.
What is THE IMPOSSIBLE?
A challenge map open to every pilot, flown in a lent UFO around monoliths, under a bridge and an overhang onto a narrow strip. You get five approaches a day and the best three pilots of each round win coins.
What is the daily challenge?
One approach with the same aircraft, map and weather for everybody, new every day. The five best landings of the day win coins.
Can I keep my progress on another device?
Yes. Under SETTINGS you find your progress code. Type it into the game on another phone or computer and your coins and hangar come with it. Keep it to yourself.
Is the leaderboard real?
Yes. The score is calculated on the server from the measurements of the landing, so it cannot be typed in or faked. Only the name you choose yourself is shown.
What data does the game store?
Your settings stay on your device. Your coins, hangar and leaderboard entries sit on the server under a random code. There is no account and no email address. The privacy page has the details.
Are the aircraft and airports real?
Most are. The A320, 747, 777, A380, Concorde, C-130, Cessna 172, Twin Otter, PC-6, Spitfire, SR-71, Shuttle and X-15 are real aircraft, and Maho Beach, Kai Tak, Lukla, Edwards and Kitty Hawk are real places. The CL-1201 was a real Lockheed design that was never built.
