canyouland.com

canyouland.com is a browser game. There is no sign-up, no account and no password. This page says exactly what the game stores, why it stores it, and how to get rid of it.

The short version. The game keeps your settings on your own device, and it keeps your coins, your hangar and your leaderboard entries on its server under a random code that your browser made up. The only name stored is the one you type in yourself for the leaderboard. If advertising is shown, Google is involved and you get asked for consent first.

What is stored on your device

In your browser's local storage, never sent anywhere except as described below:

ItemWhat it is for
SettingsSound, volume, callouts, stick sensitivity, inverted pitch
StatisticsYour attempts, your landings, your best score
Progress codeA random 20 character code, made up by your browser, that your coins and hangar hang on
Pilot nameThe name you last used for the leaderboard, so you do not have to type it again

Clearing your browser's site data for canyouland.com deletes all of it. The progress code goes with it, so write it down first if you want to keep your coins.

What is stored on the server

ItemWhy
Landing measurements: sink rate, touchdown point, distance from the centreline, bank, crab, speed, runway length, weatherThe score is worked out on the server so it cannot be faked
Your progress code, coins, aircraft owned, aircraft selectedSo your coins survive a browser restart and can move to another phone
The pilot name you type in, together with that landingThe worldwide leaderboard
A one way hash of your IP addressRate limiting, so nobody can spam the leaderboard. The address itself is not stored and the hash cannot be turned back into it

Nothing here is sold, rented or passed to anybody else. The data sits in a Cloudflare D1 database in the European Union. Hosting and delivery run through Cloudflare, which processes the usual server request data on our behalf.

Advertising

The game may offer you a video to watch in exchange for coins. Watching is always your choice, the game is fully playable without it, and nothing is deducted if you skip it.

Those videos are delivered by Google through the Ad Placement API and AdSense. Google may set or read cookies and similar identifiers in order to select and measure advertising. If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland you are asked for consent before that happens, and you can change or withdraw your answer at any time through the same dialog.

What the game does not do

Your rights and how to use them

Because there is no account, the only key to your data is your progress code, which you find under SETTINGS in the game. Send it along with your request and we can look up, correct or delete everything stored under it. To have a leaderboard entry removed, the pilot name is enough.

Under the GDPR you may ask for access, correction, deletion, restriction, and you may object to processing or complain to your data protection authority.

Children

The game is not aimed at children under 13 and asks nothing of them. It contains no purchases and no messaging.
